Born from too many 3 am incidents
Our founders spent a decade running mail and DNS infrastructure for hosting companies. The pattern was always the same: a domain expired, an SPF record grew one include too many, a server landed on a blacklist — and the first person to notice was a customer.
Existing tools answered questions when you asked them. Nobody was watching between the questions. StatusDNS started as an internal monitor that asked those questions every hour, for every domain, and told a human only when something changed. It turned out everyone who runs domains for a living needed the same thing.
What we believe
- Authoritative beats cached. We ask your name servers, not a resolver’s memory.
- Explain, don’t just flag. Every finding says what it means and what to do.
- Alerts are for changes. Nobody needs an email that says “still fine”.
- Free tools stay free. The platform pays for itself through monitoring, not by rationing lookups.
